Funding

Thank you to everyone that supports Beach Wheelchairs. We are delighted to be very generously supported by the local communities in North Berwick and Portobello. We also organise our own fundraising activities. If you are interested in raising funds for us please get in touch!

We are incredibly grateful for the funding received by a range of local and national funders. Our Board apply to funders to enable us to purchase beach wheelchairs, pay our staff and help us maintain our service to the highest standard.

North Berwick Ladies Golf Club

North Berwick Ladies’ Golf Club members have raised an impressive £1,500 for local charity Beach Wheelchairs following a successful charity bridge afternoon and afternoon tea held on Wednesday.

The event forms part of the Ladies’ Section’s two-year fundraising campaign in support of Beach Wheelchairs, which improves access to the beach for people with mobility challenges. Over the two years, more than £18,000 has been raised.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon of bridge and refreshments while generating vital funds to help ensure accessible beach equipment remains available for local residents and visitors.

With one final fundraising event, a race night planned in the coming weeks, the campaign will soon draw to a close. Thanks to the extraordinary support shown, the funds raised have secured the purchase of a brand new power chair, which Beach Wheelchairs has recently taken delivery of.

The new power chair significantly enhances access to the area’s beaches, providing greater independence and opportunity for individuals and families who rely on specialist equipment to enjoy the beach safely.

A spokesperson for Beach Wheelchairs said:

“The funding has made a substantial difference to our work, helping us meet growing demand for accessible beach wheelchairs. Support such as this ensures the charity can continue expanding its provision and maintaining its fleet.”

A spokesperson for North Berwick Golf Club said:

“North Berwick Golf Club has been delighted to support this vital local charity over the past two years and is so proud that, thanks to everyone who took part in the fundraising events, a new electric wheelchair is now in operation.”

Support from both the Ladies’ and Men’s Sections has been described as “nothing short of phenomenal,” with particular thanks extended to Ladies’ Captain Joan Lunn and Fiona Maciver (previous ladies captain) for their passion and dedication. New Ladies’ Captain Jane Nelson will now continue the Club’s strong commitment to supporting other local causes.
